Following the Penguin Design Award 2011 brief to create a cover for the book 100 Years of Solitude. Graphically I wanted to created something very simple, as the book is known for it's complexity. Also most previous efforts I discovered in my research were very complex affairs.
So I chose gold, a dominant colour in the narrative, as my main colour and I use the graphic of a cypher as a reference to the mystery that runs through the novel only to be deciphered at the end. Finally, the heptagon reflects the seven generations of one family featured in the narrative.
